2009 Banquet Preview: Jared Miley Solid in First Year on the Road

Pittsburgh, PA (January 19, 2010) - Jason Shank – O’Reilly All Star Late Model Series Director

Jared Miley of South Park, PA cut his teeth in Western PA at facilities like Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway in Imperial, PA, where he won two Late Model division championships, and Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, PA for the past five years and decided in 2009 that he would follow the O’Reilly All Star Late Model Series in their inaugural season.

Jared’s 2009 ASLMS season started off at the very familiar Lernerville Speedway where Miley finessed his way to a respectable eighth place finish in the A-Main putting him eighth in championship points.  The next night at Schrader’s K-C Raceway in Chillicothe, OH wasn’t as kind to Miley as he had to transfer to the A-Main through the B-Main but was unable to finish the feature event and was scored with a 22nd place finish.

The Series’ next trip was to Winchester Speedway in Winchester, VA and it was unfortunately another bad night for the Jared Miley Racing (JMR) team.  Again Jared used a B-Main to get into the night’s main event and came home with a 20th place finish.  Miley’s perfect attendance had him fourth in the All Star Points going into the tour’s second trip to K-C Raceway.  Jared bettered himself on this visit as he crossed the line tenth in the final rundown setting up a run of eight straight top-ten finishes.

The highlight of Miley’s All Star season came at Central PA Speedway in Clearfield, PA where Miley finished fourth in his heat putting Jared in the 15th starting position for the ‘Grizzly’.  Miley battled ‘The Big Bear’ for 45 laps before a lap 44 caution put him on the bumper of race leader Coleby Frye.  Jared made his move on Frye on the 45th circuit to take the lead and cruise to his first career All Star win and a crisp $7,000 payday.  Jared continued to stay hot throughout the Series’ trek to the state of Michigan with a third place finish at Hartford Motor Speedway in Hartford, MI and a seventh place finish at Butler Motor Speedway in Butler, MI.  The hot streak moved Miley up to third in All Star Points, just ten points out of second.

Miley continued to pick up valuable points at Tri-City Speedway in Franklin, PA with a ninth place finish and then it was back into the top-five for Jared with a third place finish at Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, WV.  Mechanical woes during Miley’s return to Central PA Speedway wasn’t enough to stop Jared’s string of consecutive top-ten’s as he borrowed a car from fellow racer Benny Gordon to finish tenth in the annual ‘Yankee Doodle’.  Miley followed that up with another tenth place finish at Twin Cities Raceway Park in North Vernon, IN.  Jared’s run of consecutive top-ten finishes came to an end at Lawrenceburg Speedway in Lawrenceburg, IN with a 14th place finish.  However, Miley was positioned solidly into the third position in the season point standings sandwiched between Rob Blair of Titusville, PA and Rod Conley of Wheelersburg, OH with only three events remaining.

The tour returned to Lernerville Speedway for the ‘Dual in the Dirt’, a co-sanctioned show featuring the O’Reilly All Star Late Models and the O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Cars.  After some bad luck early in the night, Jared came through the B-Main to finish 16th but missed the Series’ next event at Schrader’s K-C Raceway dropping him from third in championship points to sixth.  After a 13th place finish at the ‘Dirt Track World Cup Classic’ at K-C Raceway, Miley was unable to overcome the lost points from missing that one event and finished the season sixth in All Star Points.

‘I've been watching Jared since he climbed into a race car at Pittsburgh's PA Motor Speedway and have watched him grow into one of the rising stars of Dirt Late Model Racing,’ proclaimed Series Director Jason Shank.  ‘When he called me last season to tell me he was running the whole O'Reilly All Star Late Model Series I was extremely excited to be picking up such a young talent to go along with our talented crop of veterans such as Rob Blair, Rick 'Boom' Briggs, and Rod Conley, and our other vibrant youngsters like Jared Hawkins and Coleby Frye.  Jared is not only one of the young up-and-comers in Dirt Late Model racing but he's also one of the 'good guys' of the sport,’ continued Shank.  ‘He's a good kid, albeit a quiet kid, and will be very good for the sport with his personable but quiet personality and his rugged, aggressive style on the race track. He's a crowd pleaser and will be one for a long time.’
