O’Reilly All Star Late Model Series Releases 2010 Working Schedule

Image

Pittsburgh, PA (March 11, 2010) - Jason Shank – O’Reilly All Star Late Model Series Director

The O’Reilly All Star Late Model Series will open their sophomore season with a $5,000 to-win event at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, PA on Friday, April 30 as they continue to be the only regional series to offer a guaranteed cash point fund in addition to an appearance package for our top ten members in the championship point standings.  The 2010 opening weekend will conclude at Chillicothe, Ohio’s KC Raceway on Saturday, May 1 for the $10,000 to-win ‘Dirt Track World Cup Classic’ presented by Budweiser.  Not only will the ‘Classic’ be $10,000 to win, but as an added incentive, the winner will also receive a guaranteed starting spot in the 30th Annual Dirt Track World Championship to be held at West Virginia Motor Speedway in Mineral Wells, WV.

The ASLMS will make their first ever appearance at Hilltop Speedway in Millersburg, OH on Saturday, May 15 for a $4,000 to win event followed by the grand re-opening of the West Virginia Motor Speedway on Sunday, May 16.  The A-Main event at ‘The Speedplant’ promoted by BDS Promotions will pay $5,000 to the winner.

The month of may will come to a close at Tim Bainey’s Central PA Speedway with the two-day Memorial Day weekend ‘Grizzly’.  On Saturday, May 29 the ASLMS Late Models will qualify and will then have a ‘Dash for Cash’ before heading into a ‘King of the Hill’ type of format.  Once the ‘King of the Hill’ is completed there will be an open practice session for the ASLMS Late Models.  On Sunday, May 30 the ‘Grizzly’ will commence with heat races, B-Main’s and the $5,000 to win main event.  ‘Personally a fan of two day events’, says Central PA Speedway Director of Operations Dan Bainey.  ‘It gives the fans two times the action and at a discounted price.  For the teams, they only have to make the trip once and they get to race for some money both days.  The whole atmosphere at the ‘Big Bear’ has been great and this year we’re concentrating on giving the fans as much for their money as we possibly can.’

On Tuesday, June 8 the series will stop at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, OH for a $4,000 to-win special event including Dave Blaney, Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace competing against the Tri-State Modifieds.  The tour will return to Central PA Speedway on Friday and Saturday, July 2-3 for the $10,000 to-win ‘Yankee Doodle 50’.  "I would like the ‘Yankee Doodle 50’ to be a $20,000 or $30,000 to win race and can really see that happening.  I’ve talked to some companies and we are trying to put together a package that will make this happen as early as this year,’ said Dan Bainey.  ‘Without any outside sponsors my father has already added $5,000 into the total Yankee Doodle payout.’

July will continue with series first visits to Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, PA and Big Diamond Raceway in Minersville, PA.  Each will be full ASLMS programs paying $5,000 to the winner.   The tour will then make their first appearance in the Olympic Hockey Gold Medal country of Canada when the ASLMS contingent converge on Autodrome-Granby in Granby, QUE for a $5,000 to-win show on Wednesday, August 11 followed by a trip to the B.O.C., Brockville Ontario Speedway in Elizabethtown, ONT for another $5,000 to-win event on Thursday, August 12.  A third event to finish off the swing is in the works and will hopefully be announced in the near future.

The second installment of Lernerville Speedway’s ‘Dual in the Dirt’, co-sanctioned with the O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions will commence on Friday, September 3 as both Series’ will battle for $5,000.  Another September date is being planned before the series wraps up their 2010 season at KC Raceway for the $5,000 to win ‘Topless Trick or Treat 50’ on Saturday, October 30.

Image

Pittsburgh, PA (March 1, 2010) - Jason Shank – O’Reilly All Star Late Model Series Director

The O’Reilly All Star Late Model Series Inaugural Season has now officially come to an end as the ASLMS contingent of drivers were recognized and honored at the Days Inn and Conference Center in Butler, PA, the site of the ASLMS Awards Banquet.  The banquet, held in conjunction with the Lernerville Speedway Awards Banquet, was a time to reflect on the 2009 season among peers and award the participants who supported the first year series.

‘The 2009 season went well,’ Series Director Jason Shank stated, ‘it was definitely something we can build from.  We’re building something here that no one else is doing at the regional level.  We offer the drivers almost $4,000 in appearance money per event.  We have a ‘Regional Series with National Talent’ and we pay cash to prove it.  No one else is doing that at this level.  Our Champion took home over $40,000 total in 2009, in just 15 races.

First of the ASLMS drivers to be honored was sixth place Jared Miley.  ‘We ran against a lot of good competition everywhere we went and all-in-all l thought it was a good season and a good experience for us.’ Miley said while accepting his award.  ‘I need to thank my team, mom, dad, my brother, my girlfriend for supporting me for a long time, and all of my sponsors.’

Miley drives a Rocket Chassis with either a Brougher’s Machine Shop Racing Engine or a Cornett Lighting Racing Engine, and Hoosier Tires including sponsorship from Colussy Chevrolet / Brougher's Machine Shop / Red Miley's Miley Truck Rental / Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic / Miley BP Car Wash / Rocket Chassis and finished the season with 2,432 points, nine top-ten’s, three top-five’s, one b-main win and one a-main win at Tim Bainey’s Central PA Speedway in Clearfield, PA.

Next to the podium was Jared Hawkins.  ‘We had a lot of fun this year but we, tore up a lot of stuff,’ Hawkins said with a laugh.  ‘We got to see a lot of new places and enjoyed racing with all the guys with the series and we’re definitely looking forward to 2010.  I need to thank all the guys, my dad, and my mom for supplying all the food for the weekends.’

2009 ASLMS Banquet Preview: Robbie Blair Steals Inaugural Championship!

Image

Pittsburgh, PA (February 23, 2010) - Jason Shank – O’Reilly All Star Late Model Series Director

Titusville, PA’s Robbie Blair is no stranger to winning races and winning championships.  Blair has over 100 career victories, five track championships, and now with winning the Inaugural O’Reilly All Star Late Model Series Championship, has three touring series titles under his belt.  However, this championship, in his 25th Anniversary year, didn’t come without a battle.  ‘We just wanted to stay consistent all year,’ Rob said from his shop in Titusville, PA.  ‘We put ourselves behind from the beginning and the only way we were going to climb back up the standings was to be consistent.’  And that is exactly what Blair did finishing outside of the top-ten just three times throughout the year.

The beginning of Robbie’s 2009 ASLMS season started with a 22nd place finish at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, PA.  That finish put Blair in a hole that he had to fight all season to dig himself out of.  With Boom Briggs winning on opening night at Lernerville and also the following night at KC Raceway in Chillicothe, OH, coupled with Rob’s tenth place finish, the gap between himself and Boom was a distant 76 points.

Rob’s brilliant climb to the top of the standings began when the series stopped at Winchester Speedway in Winchester, VA.  Blair led the first 30 laps of the 40-lap ‘Lee Stultz Memorial’ before being overtaken by eventual race winner Jamie Lathroum with 10 laps remaining.  Blair would cross the finish line in third setting up his season long charge to the championship.  Rob finished 11th in the tour’s second trip to KC Raceway before going on a string of having 11 top-ten finishes out of the remaining 12 ASLMS events.  The surge started at Tim Bainey’s Central PA Speedway in Clearfield, PA with a solid sixth place finish.

2009 ASLMS Banquet Preview: Rick ‘Boom’ Briggs Shatters Expectations!

Image

Pittsburgh, PA (February 18, 2010) - Jason Shank – O’Reilly All Star Late Model Series Director

At the beginning of the 2009 racing season, Rick ‘Boom’ Briggs had in his mind that he was going to race locally and travel on occasion with whatever group or series that was reasonably close to his home town of Bear Lake, Pennsylvania.  But after a memorable Inaugural O’Reilly All Star Late Model Series weekend in April, his 2009 plans changed.

After sweeping the O’Reilly All Star Late Model Series’ Inaugural weekend at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, PA and KC Raceway in Chillicothe, OH, Briggs decided to buy a two-car hauler and stick with the tour.  ‘With being the only series out there besides the two national series’ to offer show-up money to the drivers, we felt it was the best thing for us to do, winning the first two shows sure did help though,’ Boom said with a smile.

After he swept the tour’s opening weekend, the series visited Winchester Speedway in Winchester, VA.  Briggs ran into a bit of trouble in his heat race and was forced to start at the tail of the 40-lap feature event.  Boom finished 18th to carry a 34 point edge going into the series’ second stop at Jeff Schrader’s KC Raceway.  Briggs showed his muscle rallying from his 13th starting spot to finish third behind Eddie Carrier and R.J. Conley.  Another strong seventh place finish at Central PA Speedway in Clearfield, PA stretched Boom’s point lead to 54 points over youngster Coleby Frye.

Return of All Star Late Models

Image
2009 marks the return of Late Models to the All Star Circuit of Champions family of racing.  During the late 80's and very early 90's, Late Model stars such as Charlie Swartz and Donnie Moran made a name for themselves touring the area.  At the completion of 1993, after crowning Billy Moyer champion, the series dissolved.  Fifteen seasons have now passed and Guy Webb has brought back the same excitement and passion that many Late Model fans remember from yester-year.
